Connecting elements with non-elements |
|

I'm learning Microstation and am trying to draw gears. Gears with straight or tapered spokes are perfect because they're composed of straight lines and arcs. Many gears have hyperbolas forming either side of a spoke and here is where I am having difficulty: trying to connect an arc with a hyperbola or one converted to a complex chain\arc. When putting the cursor on the complex chain and attempting to use one of the modify-extend elements command does not work. The error is "Element type not valid for this tool." It seems that conic sections are not considered elements and so cannot be joined to elements.
An arc cannot be used in place of the hyperbola because the hyperbola curves toward the X or Y axes but never reaches them. An arc will begin to curve outward again and not be close enough to the center of the wheel. Hope this makes sense.
How can I draw a gear with this hyperbolic shape? Is there a conversion from complex chain to element or is there another command to create such a curved line?
