Dumb FlexLM question... |

I have two networks on the same subnet. The networks are connected via
cisco routers on a private T1 line.
Because FlexLM does not support a redundant & distributed model, can I
install seperate redundant FlexLM servers on each network and have them
running on the same subnet?
If that is possible, can I install two instances of LDD5 (or icons) on a
computer and if the user can't get a license on one redundant FlexLM then
the users clicks on the other instance (icon) to draw a license from the
other FLexLM?
This seems to be the only scenario I can think of that will give me
redundancy to ensure production is not interrupted during a FlexLM or T1
problem and also allow me to maximize license between offices. (Both
offices are located in Virginia.) A strictly redundant or distributed model
spanning a T1 does not seem to be a good idea. In essence, my scheme to
have two redudant systems and seperate icons will achieve a manual redandant
and distributed model, provided two FlexLM can run on a single subnet and
the workstations can be configured to draw from either FlexLM.
Last but not least; If I can't have two redundant FlexLMs running on the
same subnet what ports, etc. do I need to block in my T1 routers to make
this a non issue?

What do you mean with FLEXlm not supporting a redundant & distributed model?
I don't think T1 is a limitation when it comes to FLEXlm since the
communication is really minimal.

Distributed servers are supported across a WAN, redundant servers are not
supported if the servers reside on remote WAN segments. My recommendation
is to not fall into the trap of making things too complex as the result is a
maintenance headache and delayed recovery in the event of a failure. A
simple distributed server setup should keep mission critical workers up
during a single server or WAN failure. A single server failure in a
distributed environment is also easy to recover from compared to the more
complex redundant setup.
