How important is a graphics card? |
I'm just about to start university and want to get a laptop, but was just wondering, when I looked at the Autocad system requirements it said that you should have a 128mb graphics card. Now the laptops I have in mind have dedicated and some shared, the shared ones are mostly the Intel cards with some thing like 1300mb of shared memory, and the dedicated about 256 to 512. I know that there are alot of things that can affect the performance of a card, but how much more important is the card compared to system memory and the processor? And what are some good cards that you guys would recommend, or laptop models?

| Just to be more specific the graphics cards and laptops that I have in mind are: HP COMPAQ 2230s with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with 384mb of shared graphics. The MSI PR211 Series with ATI RADEON HD3200 shared graphics. The toshiba u400-13k with Intel GMA 4500MHD with 1340mb shared graphics. The toshiba a300d-156 with ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 3650 with 512 mb dedicated graphics. Now I know the last mentioned is probably the best, but how will the other cards handle programs that the average university student would use? |

but I've not had any experience with laptop graphics. |
