AutoCAD dwgs to Solidworks |
|
|
I need to convert some AutoCad drawings to Solidworks.
Is it possible automatically? Is there software?
Would it be better to hire someone? I know I would lose some if not all
features.
Ideas? Help.
Thanks.

There is some functionality in SolidWorks to assist conversion of 2d to
3d, although I'm not overly familiar with it. It is possible to import
2d dwgs into part sketches these will then need to be edited manually.
How many drawings, what is the complexity most importantly why do you
need to convert them?

There are a couple things that happen when converting 2D to 3D. First
you will find that in many cases the 2D drawing is not correct.
Projected edges won't line up and that sort of thing. Section edge will
likely not be correct either. Second, ACAD files are notorious for line
on line, gaps between lines, not quite where they should be lines, etc.
And finally, it is not uncommon to find that somebody has edited a
dimension instead of redrawing the entire view. These all require human
intervention.
In SW you use the 2D to 3D toolbar as much as possible. Then you use
automatic relationships and autodimension along with the contour option
in extrude, revolve, etc.
Better to hire someone.
