quick question? |
|

Wasn't it the case that you could offset a line or arc then afterwards,
pull it's endpoint to make it longer or shorter without having to
remove the offset and offset distance relations? I can no longer do
this in 2006 sp1.

Hi Zander
Yes it was and I just tried it. It works like You say in both SW 2005
and SW 2006...in SW 2004Sp05 i can drag the endpoints

hmm, I didn't think it was that long since I tried to do that. I most
always want to extend the length of the offset - especially when it's
to the inside etc.

Me neither....could have been changed in some of the Sp's in SW05...I
only have the latest installed |

Is the offset geometry a spline? Splines don't drag very well.

Re: quick question? |

Zander,
I just tried using an Intersection Curve which created a line an arc and a
spline.
The Line - No problem
The Arc - No problem
The Spline - Slight problem, couldn't drag the endpoint intitally but then I
created a line to entend to and Extended the spine and it seemed to work
fine after that.
Funny thing though, I could drag the spline endppoint anywhere EXCEPT beyond
the point where I first extended the spline to.
Does that make sense?
HTH,

SW 2006 SP2 EV, but I'm sure it worked that way in SP1 as well

I'm not sure but I think this happened/changed in a 2005 service pack.
To get around it draw an extra line and extend or trim the offset line
to it. Delete the work line, then you are free to drag the endpoint of
the offset geometry where you want while keeping the offset relation.
PITA, but it's a work around.

Yes. The spline knows what it looks like anywhere up to its endpoint -
past the endpoint it has no definition (does it curl left, does it curl
right... who knows? Do you really want SWx to guess? Does it ever go
well when SWx makes guess?) |

Ed,
You're right of course, so NO I don't want SW to guess at anything.
But the spline created was an "arc" so I would expect it to stay fair as I
drag it.

There are definately many different cases - some working some not. My
particular situation is an arc created by intersection with a face,
then trimmed to 2 lines. Afterwards I offset this arc segment and I
expect to be able to pull out the endpoints of the offset arc to
lengthen it but it wont budge.

It appears that this "change" happened around the same time the trim tool
went "super" on us.
If you use the trim tool with the "power trim option" it allows you to click
somewhere near the end you want to extend then select how far out you want
it to go. You can click in space to extend or click on another entity to
extend to.
