MAKE IT WORK!!!!! |
|
|
My office is on subscription and I have to say that the authorization system in place now is a total disaster. Of all our products and all our seats I have had the on-line process work ONCE and that was only the Raster Design Add-on.
Every other install has called for the e-mail method (which ALSO never works from the on-line part, at least it doesn't if the securty-sieve MS Outlook is not your mail program) and lately that takes 2 business days - that's what the auto-response said last time, but actually I ended up doing it by phone after 5 business days with no response.;
The latest debacle is the Portable License Utility. I moved the seats to another machine (which worked fine) while I reinstalled windows on my system and when I moved them back they were ALL broken. I can't even redo them all at the same time, now, because Land Desktop insists on having it's license fixed before I can even get to the point where I get the request codes for Civil Design and Survey and Raster Design!

you should mention you are using standalone seats. The other way works really well (license server..).
I would be screaming at my reseller to help me if I were you. They should be able to get things rolling.
The portable license util is dangerous as you have seen. I have to say you should have been aware that when you kill
the parent computer, the child is lost. Doesn't matter though, I agree the borrowing thing is not useful for about 1/2
of users. We want to use acad at home and borrow a network seat, but have to be logged on to a domain (requires XP
pro..) to do so.
I want it to be where we have a "key" disk that is created to borrow a seat. If it gets nuked, the admin has control to
set it back. If Adesk just made that an on-line process, they could track it and see who is not being honest. Then the
honest people do not get stuck with a half baked borrowing situation.

I guess I figures that the fact that I had to call/e-mail in for authorization implied the standalone part. We are talking about the second-install on my home system, where I can't be logged into the office domain. I tried the PLU method in the hope that I could avoid the phone/e-mail bit. but it actually made it worse.
The documentation for the portable license util says to do exactly what I did. Whenever you need to reformat/reinstall a system. Migrate the seat to another machine, kill the parent system, get a machine new code after reinstall, and migrate back. The utility gave a "successful import" message with each (LDD, Civil, Survey, Raster) but when I went back to view the licenses, they all were reported broken.
Our reseller did not set this licensing system up, nor did they write the faulty code that has been on the website for 6 months. I don't think they'd be much help.

Why use the email way? I have authorized lots of standalone seats by letting acad do things automatically through the
internet when it first starts up.
You did not comment on that option at all and that is the most desirable way.
Sorry to hear the migrate process is not working, I can't wait til I have to deal with that too...
